Jake Bernhardt has devoted his career to helping people navigate the complex Social Security Disability process with care and integrity. After initially preparing for medical school, he discovered his passion for disability law while assisting with medical files and representing clients as a non-attorney advocate. By the time he earned his Juris Doctorate from the J. Reuben Clark School of Law in 2006, Jake had already represented more than a thousand clients and found his life’s work—helping people secure the benefits they deserve.

Since founding Bernhardt Disability Law in Boise, Jake has remained committed to a personal, client-first approach. He believes in taking the time to listen, explain, and guide each person through every stage of the process. Over two decades of focused experience have made him a trusted advocate and leader in the field.

Outside of work, Jake enjoys rockhounding, collecting crystals, and supporting the Idaho Dance Theatre, where his daughter performs. His curiosity and dedication—whether in law, geology, or life—reflect the same steady passion that has guided his practice for nearly twenty years.

As an EDPNA and graduate of the University of Idaho College of Law, Jake Aplin represents clients throughout every stage of the Social Security Disability process, from initial application through hearing. He combines deep legal knowledge with genuine empathy, ensuring each client feels supported, understood, and well-informed. His commitment to accessibility and communication reflects the firm’s boutique approach—personal, responsive, and focused on each individual’s needs.

Before law, Jake spent nearly 13 years in the military, serving as both an active-duty and civilian firefighter. His own experience with career transition due to health challenges fuels his passion for helping others through similar struggles. Originally from Iowa, Jake now calls Idaho home, where he enjoys coaching youth sports, spending time with his wife, Lauren, and their three children, and cheering for his favorite teams—the Green Bay Packers and all things Iowa.

As a Case Manager at Bernhardt Disability Law, Lauren Aplin helps clients navigate the SSDI and SSI process with care and precision. She guides them through applications, organizes records, and communicates directly with providers and the Social Security Administration to ensure every case is handled accurately and compassionately. Her focus on advocacy and clarity helps clients feel heard and supported every step of the way.

Lauren brings a strong background in client relations, employee management, and patient advocacy, complemented by her Business Certificate from Loyola University. Her natural empathy and attention to detail make her a trusted guide for clients facing complex challenges. Outside of work, Lauren enjoys lifting weights, spending time outdoors, creating art, and cheering on her three active children. She also loves time with her dog—her “fourth child”—and believes in finding balance through movement, creativity, and family.

Lilli Borra

Hearing Case Manager

Lilli ensures every case is fully prepared for hearing, providing clients with organization, reassurance, and dependable guidance.

Lilli Borra plays a key role in preparing Social Security Disability cases for hearings, coordinating with clients, medical providers, and judges’ offices to ensure every detail is in order. Her organizational skills and compassionate communication help clients feel supported through what can be a stressful process. Lilli is known for her reliability and for creating a sense of calm and clarity in even the most complex cases.

Before joining Bernhardt Disability Law, Lilli worked in hospitality and later in legal office services, where she developed her skills in communication, client service, and attention to detail. Starting as a receptionist, she grew into her current role as a Hearing Case Manager, where her dedication and empathy continue to make a difference. Based in Chicago, Lilli enjoys exploring new neighborhoods, visiting thrift shops, trying local coffee spots, and spending time with her sister, friends, and cat, Lucy.

Dalia Dempster

As the Front Desk Receptionist at Bernhardt Disability Law, Dalia Dempster serves as the welcoming face and voice of the firm. She assists with client intake, scheduling, and communication, helping connect clients to the right team members and ensuring the office runs smoothly. Her organization and warm demeanor help create a supportive environment where clients feel at ease from their very first call.

Before joining the firm, Dalia earned her degree in Advertising and Marketing from the University of Idaho and gained legal experience working in medical malpractice and personal injury law. She values the opportunity to learn from her colleagues and be part of a compassionate, client-focused team. Outside the office, Dalia enjoys thrifting, antiquing, and exploring the outdoors with her dog, Peanut.

Kenzie began her career in education and college admissions, experiences that honed her ability to guide and advocate for people facing complex systems. Her background gives her a strong foundation in organization, empathy, and problem-solving. Outside of work, she enjoys collecting vinyl records, listening to music, and spending time with her husband, Luke, and their two dogs, Draco and Casper. Her genuine care for others and love of learning shine through in everything she does.

Tyler earned his bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies with a minor in Criminal Justice from Boise State University, followed by a Juris Doctor from the University of Idaho College of Law. He first joined Bernhardt Disability Law while in law school and quickly discovered his passion for disability law. Outside of the office, he enjoys hunting, fly fishing, fitness, and spending time with his dog in Idaho’s great outdoors.
